Over a year ago I stumbled on this site & lurked for a while before having the guts to even join. My wonderful wife “suggested” I get involved in something (anything?) that would interest me & occupy my time – read stay out of my hair now that you don’t have the store anymore.
I probably over thought everything as it related to equipment, but now have Ridgid 4512 TS, Rikon 10-325 BS & Ridgid EB4424 oscillating sander as my major equipment purchases.
I owe huge thanks to several LJ’s who responded to directed questions with their insight & expertise on equipment, accessories, finishing, etc. They include: Charles Neil, knotscott, Boxguy, HorizonalMike, eddy, gfadvm, Steve & I hope I didn’t miss someone. Then there are all of you that provided information & inspiration just by posting.
I’ve been fortunate to find some small family saw mills here in Western North Carolina & able to get wood finished 3 sides so I don’t need jointer & planner yet. Okay, I’ll gloat a tad… the walnut & maple I bought from a place 18 miles from me was $2.50/bd ft. Used for my 1st box. Posted on project page, many oops & few aw-sh**t’s but I’m learning.
