Furniture Design Styles - Book Recommendations - 8 replies

Fellow LJ’s,I was having a discussion with a fellow woodworker the other day who is working with his boss (read:wife) to design a new coffee table for their living room. In the discussion, we were going over different traditional styles of design: arts & crafts, mid-century modern, shaker, etc.. I was trying to explain some of the nota...

Dumb Question - Pencil Sharpener - 55 replies

OK, so by clicking on the title of this post, you are already aware that this is going to be a stupid question (yes, they do exist). I’ve had the same old battery powered pencil sharpener in my shop for over a decade now. It has put a nice long and sharp point on my Ticonderoga #2’s every time I asked it to… until last week...

Large Garage Cabinet Doors - 8 replies

I’m planning out some large garage cabinets that will go in the back of my shop to store a lot of my “garage stuff” that isn’t woodworking related. Rakes, leaf blower, hoses, etc.. I’ve got a nice 18” deep niche on the back wall that is just under 8’ wide and 8’ tall that will fit a nice big set o...

All of these tools vibrate quite a bit so I’m a little hesitant to throw cheapo casters on em. I’d like dual locking swivel casters for at least the front of both “carts&...

Favorite method for attaching a table top - 17 replies

I recently finished a personal project to make an entire coffee table without using power tools. It is mostly oak from an in-laws old farm house in WV. In keeping with a “all hand tools” theme, curious to know what you guys/gals like for attaching your table tops. I’m not opposed to putting screws in it or using metal fasten...

New To Me Laguna Table Saw - 6 replies

Fellow LJ’s,I recently bought a 2011 model of the Laguna MTS0300 “Platinum Series Tablesaw w/ Dovetail Mech Left-tilt” from my Father-In-Law at a steep family discount. The saw was heavily used for a few months during a renovation project he was working on and has sat in his garage for the last 8 or so years as a storage table...

When is it time to replace a strop - 5 replies

Curious when you guys know it’s time to replace a leather strop. Normally I replace my strops every year or so when I notice the shine on my chisel and plane blades start to diminish… but it’s always kinda been a “feeling” and there is a solid chance it is just in my head and the new strop really isn’t any bet...
