Topic tags/keywords: grizzly horrible customer service bad tool buying

I’m have been a hobby woodworker for many years, I tend to spend hours upon hours in my shop tinkering with my tools and my wood as do most of us here I’m sure ! My issue is in the past 2 years I have been limited to time in the shop in a dramatic way. I had a sick father that moved in with me and had to spend all free time taking care of him ( no a problem at all , its what were suppose to do ! ) but in doing that I had to sell my house move to a new place an everything to goes along with all that, After the loss of my dad alittle under a year ago I am just now within the past 6 months able to start restocking my much smaller shop with tools. I have very limited space and budget. I choose Grizzly as my primary source for Tablesaw, jointer, shaper , I have purchased all of these new from grizzly over the last 3-4 months ! IT HAS BEEN A TOTAL NIGHTMARE !!! shaper was #1 on my list I purchased it along with an extension table and extra spindle the main unit came in within 3 days which was excellent, but my extension table and spindle took about a month and a half reason being UPS dropped these items off at a mailbox in a ditch and they were almost completely ruined I was able to have the table resurfaced at a machine shop for another $90 the spindle had to be completely rebuilt (local machine shop rethreaded and cleaned up as good as possible) ! I’m on the coast of Louisiana (salt water/air mixture eats EVERYTHING!! grizzly did offer to replace the items after a month of complaining that the items have not been received although UPS website said they were ! I had a horrible horrible experience with customer service on this issue the best answer I could get from them was ” Well UPS says it was delivered ” ....and all I could say is well it WAS NOT delivered here to me ! anyway the package was found 1/4 mile from the actual delivery location. I pretty much washed my hands of grizzly at this point! then looking at tablesaws pointed me back at grizzly along with reading other peoples dealings with grizzly and after speaking to a couple of grizzly owner friends I decided to suck it up an buy my tablesaw , it couldn’t have went smoother it arrived with 4 days and it was a perfect transaction from start to finish ! so that did wonders for my faith in grizzly I soon ordered my jointer ( week before last to be exact ) the shipment on this item was 2 boxes of which I received 1 so far ( the base ) it has the pedestal arm for the power switch ( which has a cracked weld and is bent ) the base and wheels , and THATS ALL !! no motor no belt no paperwork nothing !! so I again contact grizzly about this an was told must be lost in shipping and they’d get back to me later that evening! (never received that phone call , so I think 2 days later I wrote an email complaining and was told they sent the upper part was mailed out Tuesday ! hopefully I receive this next week sometime but my question is am I the only person that has had a horrible experience with grizzly customer service / shipping ? I understand Grizzly does contract the shipping out to major shippers but each time I’ve had an issue either with grizzly or the shipper, grizzly’s customer service is in no way shape or form helpful ! not without ALOT of complaining or a lot of phone calls ? shouldn’t something like this be an issue to take some time to investigate ? would you just simply tell your customers Sorry but UPS says its been delivered? am I out of line for not EVER wanting to do business with these people again ? I am in no way shape or form the type of person that complains about much of anything but I feel I’ve spent a decent amount of money with this company in the past couple months my hard earned money ! I expect to get what I pay for including decent customer service ! I’m just wondering has anything like this happened to anyone but me ? I am the only person I personally know that has had bad luck with Grizzly and would love to know if anyone else has had similar issues ?

I think you will get more folks to read your saga if you break it up into paragraphs and break out each issue one by one.

The package in the ditch is a real bummer and that one, I think is on UPS’s head, not Griz. Of course, since Griz chose the shipper, they would be responsible in an indirect way. That’s just very strange. UPS leaves things on my porch. However, if you have a long dirt driveway (farm style), I can imagine that some UPS drivers might be afraid to go do there and get stuck. Still, leaving the package on the side of the road is hardly what I would call “delivery”.

Sorry, I didn’t read all of your post as I have a limited attention span. :-)

Should have taken them up on that. And filed a claim with UPS regarding the other stuff.
It’s a long boat ride from the orient, so those things take a beating. If they offer to send replacements for damaged/missing stuff, let them.. or complain until they do.

That is the very reason I don’t buy Grizzly tools; the hassle you may have to endure if something is not right + the cost of shipping. When I buy, I prefer to buy locally, if possible. For a large power tool, I will travel maybe, 200 miles round trip to examine before buying. I don’t like to depend on shipping companies to “baby” my purchase. I did buy a Powermatic jointer from Amazon and it arrived in good shape. Maybe I was just lucky.

Sounds more like UPS problem than grizzly. grizzly sent it,and you haven’t said anything about it not working, but that It came damaged and in the ditch, that’s a UPS problem and I would be B!cthing to them and not sign for anything till I examined the Item. Then if you used it or assembled it and it was missing parts or didn’t fit then it would be grizzly’s fault.

I have purchased a Table Saw and a Band Saw both from Grizzly and couldn’t be more pleased.
My band saw came in 2 boxes with no problem. My table saw a G0690 came in 3 boxes and the largest one bolted to a pallet.
My saw had some damage on it and the parts were easy to remove and replace. I called Grizzly and had the parts in 3 days. They even sent me touch up paint for some small scratches and called 3 days later to see if everything was ok and if I had any more problems they could help me with.
I really think this whole thing is the shipper’s fault and not Grizzly. I was very impressed with their customer service department.
Sorry for your problems. and I hope you new tools work well for you.

maybe I should have made myself more clear I was very unhappy when I wrote this but I DID contact grizzly many many times ! also UPS and the answers I received from both were: UPS said I was delivered AND SIGNED FOR ! when in fact that’s not possible I do live off the beaten path But have had many UPS deliveries out here with no issues ! I agree that its more of a UPS issue than Grizzly. But bottom line is I paid Grizzly for tools and received trash and very well could have sent it back an waited another month for my replacements in hopes that I’d receive it , the way I see it I’d rather just have it repaired. those are issues I understand, what I have trouble with is the fact of Grizzly telling me ” UPS says it was delivered so that’s that ” that’s piss poor customer service in any TROLL’S book ! and in just about any other decent FISHERMAN I know of’s book ! I understand there are all walks of life everywhere but to run your head about people you know nothing about is pretty ignorant as far as I’m concerned !

I can see some errors on both sides and especially UPS. Sorry your return to woodworking has to start like this but the worst part will be if it stays with you from here on. We have seen a recent example of that.

Pick up from now, make your future decisions based on what it is that you have learned from this, but most importantly forget the past except for what you have learned and enjoy the future that you have in your new shop. It may seem hard but trust me, you can learn to be happy from this point forward.

I just put my Grizzly 6×46 Jointer together. It does have a little bit of vibration to it when it runs but nothing that would cause problems. Ran my first 2×4 through it and was reasonably pleased with the results.

Adjusting the outfeed and infeed tables did take me a little bit longer than I expected and locking down the outfeed did cause it to move a little so I had to compensate for that in my adjustments but for what it cost I really don’t have much room to complain.

I did order the “12 Speed Heavy Duty” bench top drill press also. It’s the same as the floor-standing 12-speed it just has a shorter stand and smaller base. The motor on it was kaput/DOA – one of the windings was bad or something as it wouldn’t maintain speed. It took a little bit of troubleshooting over the phone but Grizzly sent me a whole new motor out which arrived in a couple of days.

I’m not looking forward to swapping the motor but at least they did send me a new one without much hassle.

At the end of the day Grizzly is cheaper than others but does provide decent quality tools for the price.

Regarding your item being delivered to a ditch / improperly – that’s squarely on UPS unless you provided an incorrect/invalid address or otherwise they do not service freight to your location. I know I personally went to our local UPS hub and picked mine up there and brought it home.

Sorry but this is a troll, I’ve always been called by the shipping company usually UPS to schedule a delivery time, they never just drop off a $1,500-2,000 machine without signing for it. Grizzly even tells you to check it over before you sign.

This is bologna and it’s name is spelled M O Y A K!
