Topic tags/keywords: question wax finish topcoat poly

My son applied a colored wax for a piece he built. Its a bit soft and we were wondering if we should/could apply a polyurethane topcoat to harden and protect the wax finish. I dont know enough about finishing to understand what we can do next to “finalize” the finish.

Advice appreciated!

Can’t put polywhatshisname on wax. Maybe shellac.
