Buffalo band saw

Buffalo is another of the Taiwan brands. Don’t know if they are still around. My only hesitation would be that early Taiwan stuff had similar quality issues that the Japanese had after WWII, and that the Chinese have now. But, it should be okay, especially considering your budget restraints.

I picked up an elephant branded one that looks just like that this summer. It works for me.
Band saws are one of the simplest power tools in the woodworking shop so they aren’t that hard to tune up.
I bought cool blocks and urethane tires off amazon and those got it running smooth.
Paid $100 for mine. You don’t see 14” band Dawes for much cheaper than that.

I could spend more than that for the right saw. But, my local CL is slim pickings for decent band saws. I could buy 12 inch Craftsman saws all day for $150-200, but I think I can do better. There’s a nice looking Delta for $200. The ad is a little vague, though. I think it’s a 14 inch.

Having fussed with an older Taiwan import in
my youth… a black one labeled Cal-Hawk and
darned similar looking to that Buffalo… well,
I’d say consider the Delta.

The Taiwan saws can be made to work well
but it can require some real finessing. I did
the best I could with tuning mine but was
glad to see it go when I got my first INCA
band saw.

If the Buffalo was the only remotely affordable
14” saw in your market, I’d say go for it.

I think you should go for Delta band saw. Do you happen to know the model?
