..Craigslist ain’t so bad. Mind you, I love reading the posts in the Craigslist have gone nuts thread, some really entertaining stuff there..
But I happened to strike a few very good deals though, just last week.
First up, a nice heavy duty half horse drill press that I picked up for $90. It’s your garden variety Taiwanese-built drill press, but it’s good and heavy, built right, came with a nice angle-able vice, and the all important run-out measurement is within a cool one thousands.
Take a look:
Next up, an old ‘blue label’ JET band saw, sold to me in perfect working condition for $110 with a roll-around stand ..sweet..

Last but not least, an old JET 12” planer, people tell me that the ‘updated’ version of this planer was ‘way better’ and others say ‘not as good’ ... meh… who knows.. All I know is, once I tuned it up and tested it, it suits all of my needs… $90 bucks…

Cheers guys (and gals) Have a great day :)

Average cost of less than $100 per tool. Nice haul at great prices.

”Really nice band saw for the money. Never around when I go to buy. larry”
Yea Larry, I think the BS was the best deal of the bunch. I had been watching CL every single day for five months, and quite frankly, getting depressed… So seeing this deal last Sunday mornin’ was like a godsend..haha
I was lucky in that I contacted the guy like 14 minutes after he posted the ad, and considered myself even more lucky that I got there when I did, as according to the seller, there were other buyers literally 20 min. behind me.

”Nice haul!”
Thanks ScrapHeap, I thought so too. I loaded up my buddie’s Durango with as much stuff that I could fit in the thing..haha
This guy also had a 2HP Jet dust collector in perfect working condition for all of 50 bucks.. A mint Delta 10” contractor TS for $100, and get this, a Beisemeyer 50” fence rail system for $25
I could have fit the Beis in my buddie’s vehicle, but this guy really had no idea about the value of the stuff he was selling. Long story short, the Delta had the stock fence system…didn’t have the heart to swipe that Beis without telling seller that that thing would make a good saw into a great one, and told him to inform whomever bought the TS of that.

That’s the way I looked at it too after making these purchases, hell, I could probably re-sell this stuff at a higher price, but I won’t.

Thanks Alistair, exactly my plans, it’s my belief that woodworking is a hell-of-a-lot less expensive, and more rewarding, than any stress relieving option that’s currently out there. ;^}
