Hello All,

Its been a couple of weeks without even lurking here, work has been crazy busy so I’ve not had a chance to even look in the shop. BUT! My incredible wife has recognized that things have been a bit crazy and has offered a whole weekend of working in the shop, while she takes the kids to Winnipeg for the weekend. They get to visit Granny, Jenn gets to attend a cookie exchange party and I get to make sawdust; everybody wins!

Jenn is taking the camera with her so I will not have photos of any progress I make but I will try to post final shots after they return.

Feels good to be getting back in the shop!!!!

My kids are grown, but a weekend in the shop with no “honey-dos” would be great!

I am looking forward to it. I just got back from the lumber store and hardware store buying bits and pieces for the jigs and gauges I need to make. Bought a nice piece of hard maple for drawer runners and perhaps a small box for Jenn.

Ahhh, what a great weekend! I am sore and stiff but man did I make a lot of sawdust. I think I used every major power tool and a few minor ones…even a Dremel sander that I inherited from my Dad that I think he didn’t even use once. I managed to get the mitre slots on the new top for my router table. I attempted a glue up of a table top for my daughter but realized the dimensions were all wrong for the ‘plan in my head’. Came up with a new design for the desk top that will really challenge what skills I have. I hope to SU it over this week.

Late Sunday afternoon the outside temp started coming up so my space heater started making progress on the battle to keep the shop ‘warm’ it got up to about 10 degrees Celsius there for a while. Most of the weekend the shop was about 8 degrees ….mind you outside it was – 28 with a windchill down inot the minus 40s…made running back and forth to the house for coffee and snacks andother essentials a little brisk. I am a little concerned how this will affect the outcome of the project as I am unsure of how much dimensions will change once things warm up.

I had to laugh at myself as I noticed I was a perosn who cleaned up as he was going as opposed to waiting ‘til the end of the project…I suspect the repeated sweeping of the floor was more to stay warm than out of a sense of fastidiousness LOL!

Well back to work again so stay warm all and ‘keep your stick on the ice’.

Mark
