Topic tags/keywords: protecting wood floor

We live in a modular home and we have wafer board under the carpet, the carpet needs to come out but it will be awhile before we ;ay down hardwood floor. Do you have any suggestions as far as a wood sealer/hardener/protector that we could use on the floor to protect it until the new floor is put down? Also something that is cost effective.

Thanks !!!

You do not want to see what’s under your carpet (and wonder what those stains are) until you absolutely have to.

i did research into hardwood floors awhile back. I do not think you can lay them on wafer-board. It’s not stable enough. It takes a extremely stable surface to put hardwood flooring down. 3/4” ply etc. Some engineered ‘fake” hardwood type flooring’s are more forgiving cause they can handle the flex and changes due to seasons but of course these do not hold up like true hardwood. There is a reason that you don’t see much hardwood flooring in mobile or modular homes. It might not be a good idea. I know a modular home is a truly permanent structure, so foundation also comes into play. If your on a slab it might work out better than if on a block foundation for instance.
