Topic tags/keywords: nailer flooring nailer hardwood floor adapter plate

Hello all. I have a quick one regarding the adapter plate used on a flooring nailer. I have a 2 in 1 flooring nailer that I bought severla years ago from HF. Yeah I know the horror stories and I was well prepared to use this and toss it but this one hasn’t given me any trouble and I’ve used it to install an entire second floors worth of bamboo flooring. Anyway my question is this, what is the correct adapter plate size to use for 3/4” hardwood. I have 2 plates with sizes listed on the bottom. One is a 5/16” size plate and the other is 1/4”. Of course the instruction manual has different sizes listed, one being 25/32” and doesn’t really specify which plate to use for each thickness of flooring. The only thing specified in the manual is the nailer comes with one plate pre-installed for 3/4” flooring with an additional adapter for 1/2”. I don’t remember if I changed out the plates when I put in the bamboo which is 5/8” thick. I would imagine it’s either use the smaller thickness plate for the thicker flooring or vice versa. Any tips on figuring this out are most appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Not sure of that nailer, but guessing you need no plate for 3/4”, the thinner plate for 5/8” and the thicker for 1/2” flooring. Try a test shot on piece of scrap and see where it penetrates. Ideally it should land flush or just under flush on top of tongue. Hope that helps.
