Topic tags/keywords: question oak finishing

I am starting to stain and finish an AV cabinet I have constructed out of red oak. I am using Minwax Wood Finish English Chestnut wood stain, and Minwax fast dry Poly for the clear coat.

Many of the pieces will have to stained and protective coated on two sides so will have to be turned over to finish both sides. The question I have is how long do I have to wait after applying the finish (stain and clear coat) before it is safe to turn the piece over.

Minwax says for the stain recoat time is 4-6 hours, with dry time at least 8 hours. For the poly coat, 4-6 hours between coats and 24 hours before use.

Are there any unfinished edges? A nail/screw into an unseen edge will allow you to hang it up and finish both sides at once.

I’ve had great success with these You can find them anywhere you buy the Minwax.
