If your in Northern Illinois (Sycamore, Dekalb, Malta area) and have a portable mill. Send me an email. I’ve got two walnut trees coming down Saturday morning at 9am. If I can’t find a mill, a couple friends are taking one or two pieces for turning….the rest is firewood. The area needs to be cleared for Sunday so I can’t “wait till later”.

They are yard tress…..about 35 feet tall maybe.
I have a 6ft arm span and my fingers just touch when I hug the tree so…..that’s about 1.9ft in diameter. On the other tree I can overlap my fingers so it’s a few inches narrower. Those rough measurements are taken at shoulder height. The trunk of the wider tree is about 6 feet before it splits. The other tree is maybe 7 feet before it splits. I’m not even sure if these trees are big enough for a portable mill to bother with. I’d love to keep them for myself but I don’t have the means to mill them.

If I find a taker, I’d like to keep a couple planks for a friend of mine. Handplane…a local lumberjock.

Maybe you can find a sawyer here
I am in central Illinois, but your baby trees are a little far. Good thing is the timing. Paint the ends of the logs with a couple coats exterior latex and they will lay safe from decay/bug for the next 5 months where you live with no degrade (up on cribbing off the ground)
Good luck.

Have your say...
