So with the sale prices the 0490 is $130 more than the 656.

The fence is a little different on the 0490 – I’m going late this week to look at both jointers and otherwise they appear to be alike with some minor differences, parallelogram tables aside. Levers on 490 vs. wheels on 656. Base looks a little bit bigger as well on the 490.

Is there something else I’m missing for the price difference?

I mean, functionally they should have the same results. It’s just a matter of which one you like better with the fence, hand wheels, and tables.

Well, I’d say its the parallelogram beds, really. I didn’t look at the specs of each but just quickly glanced at the two machines and the beds alone, IMO, are worth the difference. I think you can also do a comparison on their site to compare the specs side by side.

Yep, parallelogram beds. The G0490 is a clone of the Delta DJ20, which is a very highly regarded machine. I’ve had my eye on the G0490 for awhile now, but I’ve got a lot of saving left to do. :)

I originally ordered the 656 and it arrived a complete and total lemon. Worst fit and finish Ihave seen on about any machinery ever. Grizzly took the 656 back and I got a 490 and have been thrilled w/ its performance over the last 4 months.

Have your say...
