I have the opportunity to buy a virtually new Rikon 12 inch planer/jointer combo machine for $900.00
I am fortunate to have a lot of hardwood over 8 inches wide and I just am not getting the results i want with my
6 inch jointer. I already have a woodmaster planer, so I doubt I will be switching it out much/ Just looking to see if anyone has any comments. I have read the online reviews, but I always like to hear from owners.

Thanks in advance

Hey Dj, I’m considering the same machine now. Did you end up getting it? If so, how is it?

You know, for the sake of argument, I have been successfully jointing 10in wide stock on my 8in jointer before taking it to my 13in Ridgid planer.

Most of the time I will rotate the stock 180* after each pass on the jointer, so that I only have <1/32in ridge to deal with. I often will then handplane the ridge off of the piece before sending it through the planer. That is NOT even necessary most times as once you have a couple of passes on the planer you can flip and run the jointed side through and clean it up that way as well, and then resume planing the original side to desired thickness. Just a thought…
