Topic tags/keywords: exterior finishes exterior wood

LJ Friends I am getting ready to design and build an arched top exterior Gate in a humid climate.
The Gate is going to be 36” w x 72” high at its apex. Customer would like this to look like an entrance door to their garden area and to the house.

I am interested in some suggestions and experience of other LJ Team members on what the best wood to use would be and the strongest most reliable finish to use.

I am considering Clear Alder, Spanish Cedar, and Redwood.

Finish I was considering General finishes Exterior 450 Clear – Tintable Protective Waterbourne Coating.
Curious to see if anyone has used waterbourne for any exterior projects.
Thanks for taking a minute and sharing your thoughts and comments.

Cypress a possibility? My next choice would be the redwood.
ANY exterior finish is only temporary at best, and will have to renewed at least every 2 yrs.
