Topic tags/keywords: lathe belt

Do any of you own the HF 12×33 wood lathe? Some of you might be tempted to ask WHY would anyone own a HF lathe, well, this is actually a pretty good machine. A clone of the Jet 12×36. Its done everything I’ve asked of it. I want to replace the belt that it came with with one that I bought from an auto parts supplier but the manual for the lathe says nothing about how to change the belt.

Most lathes are the same, you need to remove the headstock shaft. This is usually done by removing a couple set screws in the pulley and the hand wheel and maybe the the bearings (probably not). Then just tapping the shaft out using a wooden or plastic mallet and changing the belt. Once changed reverse the reassembly. Hope this general information helps.
