Topic tags/keywords: class course fine woodworking education long island shop time cabinetry

Hi guys,
I’m Adam, a builder from the countryside of upstate New York. I went to school for carpentry and cabinetry in NY state and did a furniture program at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine.
For the last year Ive been building custom furniture and cabinetry in Long Island…my reasons for being here started with a woman and grew to include a fair economy for fine woodwork…
But since Ive been working for a few years now I want to learn some new tricks, pick up some advanced skills…I’m hoping some of you know Long Island? Maybe somebody knows of a course or program geared towards adults…I’m leaning towards advanced veneering, bending, shaping, you know, the good stuff!
I’ve been looking and havent seen anything, so I’m strongly considering starting my own course and opening my shop after hours and weekends to teach basic safety and woodwork…maybe if it proves succesfull I can invite some other big-name furniture makers like Garrett Hack or whomever for guest lectures…

Hopefully some of you folks knowof something like this or may have some ideas/cautions…haha!

Hi Adam, I live in Sa Harbor on the east end where are you living? I don’t know of any classes, but I know a lot of talented people that can be generous sharing ideas and workshops. I’m a boat builder and on occasion teach boat building workshops in Amagansset at a community boat shop. Feel free to stop by my shop if you want. My web site is posted below.

I am actually looking for a starters class. I am thinking about quitting my job and spending my time trying things I think i might enjoy doing. I have always had an interest in trying to make furniture, cabinets, etc- do you know where i can find a beginners class on LI?
