I’m in the market for a dado set. I’ve been looking at the Freud SD208 and SD508. The SD508 costs about twice as much (~$200 at but contains a 3/23” chipper, which supposedly allows for the dado to cut perfect widths for use with undersized plywoods.

Are there any other good dado sets that I should consider?

If I buy a set without a 3/32” chipper, am I going to regret it?

If I had the money I’d buy the Freud dial dado set 2309(cost $249.99). But I didn’t have the money, so I got the 8” dado set sold by Harbor Frieght and have had great success with it. It cuts a smooth bottom and sides. Don’t buy a wobble dado blade. If you do make sure your arbor is long enough.

I hardly ever use my dado blades anymore.
With the large router, I have various sizes of bits. It’s much easier, & quicker to setup than the table saw.
I think it’s even better for cutting tenons.
An interesting PDF from FWW

I just bought the Forrest 8” Dado King, and it is the nicest Dado set I’ve every used. It cost $249, so it better be.
