I have been considering the Incra fence to upgrade my Grizzly table saw (currently Shop Fox). But it is a 6 month wait to get one. I just heard about the Vega 50. Anyone have one of those? Any other brands out there as good or better than either the Incra or Vega?
I have the Incra fence and love it. I took off my biesemeyer delta fence which was good but no more bumping to get the perfect measurements. I think it's worth the wait. I get find anyone who wants my biesemeyer fence even for free.
+1 on the Incra. I will admit it's a bit uncomfortable to have to lean over to read the scale, but I've gotten used to it. The pluses of this fence FAR, FAR outweigh any negatives. The way I set mine up I can use the same fence on my router table by moving the entire positioner to the second stop.
BTW when I purchased my SawStop saw I purchased it without the fence and without any table extensions.
So to start off, I have a beisemeyer 52" commercial fence on my ridgid 4512. and I have not used the two fences you are looking at.
But before I got the Beisemeyer, which was to good of a deal to pass on. (I still had the crappy stock Ridgid fence).
I was in the market for a fence. And had pretty well decided on the Vega Pro 50.
Tons of reading and videos got me to that point. and yes, I spend to much time doing that.
I don't want to bad talk Incra though. I own one of there miter gauges and love it. They make fine tools.
I just did not like the space the fence takes up on the right of the blade.
Like Woodmasters photo above. I use the space to the right. When doing repetitive cuts, raw wood to the right of my fence, and finished on a cart to the left.
I liked the Vega Fence, and it had plenty of good feedback. And I liked the micro adjust on the Vega fences. A true step up from the Beisemeyer style. which yes, can be a pain in the tail, but still works for me.
Here is a little video I found. guy is talking about Mods he has made for his Vega fence. But at about 6:45 into it he quickly explains the micro adjust.
We have a large shop with plenty of room to the front of the table saws. Our two Grizzlys sit adjacent to one of the open bays of the shop (IE: we can back our 24' enclosed trailer into the shop to unload right in front of the saws). Both saws have 8'x6' fixed outfeed tables and we have mobile infeed tables (looking hard at getting the collapsible Conveyors though). The saws and tables run N/S and the bay runs E/W if that makes more sense.
That leaves the room to the right of the fence open so that won't be an issue for the Incra in my mind.
One thing that is critical for us is REPPEATABLITY. We usually have several projects going on at once and often have to jump between one setting and another.
I had the Vega fence on my old craftsman table saw it's ok but not better than the biesemeyer fence on my delta I replaced. I wouldn't trade the biesemeyer for the Vega. I bought the Vega fence for my old powermatic table saw I'm my woodshop at school. They didn't holdup to the students abuse. I was always repairing the brass strip on the lock.
The setup MadMark has looks like the way to go!! Like many I have a hard time judging exactly where the red line is.
