I picked up a Stanley no. 81(came with no blade) here while back and finally got around to order a new blade for it. I went with a Hock blade. For some reason it does not fit. Its 1/16” thick. Has anyone had this issue or have an idea of what I can do. |

Too thick? You did not say. I am trying to remember, I think I had to dress the bosses on my $51 for a replacement blade. I had to open the throat on my #4 for a Hock iron for thickness. |

The metal plate that sits behind the blade appears to be warped. I was able to slip in a 1/16” ruler on one side. Now I need to see if I can flatten it. |

Well if anyone was curious I fixed the problem. I used a c clamp and tighten the plate down and took a torch to it. Warming it up gradually to around 280 and let it cool down naturally. Unclamped the plate and it flattened it enough to get the blade in it. Naturally I had to test it out(blade is straight out of the package with no modifications). I am still reading up on if I should put a hook on it or not. I will need to make a new base for it and I will probably try purpleheart due to the hardness and I have some laying around. I welcome any suggestions. Thank you. |
