Seems like he uses the term Stave, and Segment interchangeably. I would think that could add to confusion in a market that I have always heard referred to segment turning, at least here. I don't turn, so maybe not?
I have one … it works as advertised. I have done a number of test pieces with it and plan to start building pieces for fall craft shows in a few days.
There are 2 things that are a bit tricky. Setting up the splay of the stave is pretty much guesswork … there is no scale, you just eyeball it to set your splay.
The other tricky thing is the blade angle adjustment … if the reference surface were a little bigger, it would be easier to get the blade angle set properly. I understand the inventor is working on some add-on items, so this may be corrected in the future.
The inventor was on a Zoom call with the Detroit Are Woodturners, and describes the jig in more detail:
I found an Indiegogo campaign for the TW JS3 Jig which is a tool that helps with compound angle cuts. The campaign raised $29,746 USD by 192 backers1. I couldn’t find any reviews of the product online. However, there are some updates from the creator of the campaign on Indiegogo that you might find helpful. Flappy Bird
