RIP David Charlesworth, B: October 6, 1951 D: May 22, 2022. I have learned so much from him over the years. He had more talent than any ten woodworkers put together. A true master. -- Half of what we read or hear about finishing is right. We just don’t know which half! — Bob Flexner |

Sad to hear that. I’ve enjoyed his YouTube videos. |

I have to say that I’m surprised so few knew who David Charlesworth was. I say that because we’re all good people and good people care about the loss of a great teacher and share their experiences like BurlyBob did. That only BurlyBob commented suggests to me that others were unaware of this great teacher who we lost. If you’re not familiar with David’s work, it’s unfortunate. If you were, you’d be a better woodworker than you are. Here’s one: If you’ve ever spent time to flatten the entire back of a plane iron, you could have saved much of that time by using the Charlesworth ruler trick. Want a piston fit on your drawers? Check this out. RIP David. I learned so much from you. -- Half of what we read or hear about finishing is right. We just don’t know which half! — Bob Flexner |

I am a hack compared to that guy, not worthy. One needs extensive experience with planes to do that type of work, and an arsenal of planes to do it with. I checked out the link to piston-fit drawer. Interesting concept. I watched some other YTs of his, memorable quote: “A ten minute opportunity to ruin weeks worth of work.” -- WWBBJ: the first to compare a woman´s cheek to a rose was a poet. The second, an idiot. Dali |
