Topic tags/keywords: dust collection

My ClearVue cyclone sits in the corner of my workshop where it makes a lot of noise – enough that the neighbour is complaining. I would like to enclose it in the corner and would love to hear suggestions about ‘best’ materials for this construction. Also, I am concerned about heat buildup. If I create a ‘large’ baffled vent at the top, will the air flow exiting the filters be sufficient to keep the motor cool? I assume that the air from the filters would be forced to vent past the motor and take the heat buildup with it.

There’s already a strong fan on the back of the motor that provides cooling air. You don’t really need to assist it, just don’t restrict it. Leave a few inches between the ceiling and the fan intake on the back of the motor.
The airflow through the closet will be more than enough to keep the air in the closet cool.

I’m not sure that building a closet for the DC will alleviate your complaining neighbor unless you are working with a garage door open or something like that. Building walls on the interior of the shop won’t fix the sound that is conducted through the exterior wall. Personally, I don’t think a Clear Vue would be excessively loud compared to a planer or router.

You might consider checking the CV forum at ClearVue. As I recall they have a section just about mitigating the noise.
