Okay heres one. I have a round wooden stool seat thingy I am making into a Circle thing you hang on your front door with some cut vinyl wording on it. One half have a Thin yellow craft paint stain on it then I shot it all over with Satin spray lacquer. SO far so good! Use Blue painter tapes to cover up the top yellow part and spray painted. Turned out great EXCEPT when I pulled the blue painters tape of ONE of the brands 3M of all tape left a adhesive behind.

I used WD-40 to wipe it off and it turned out great. I still have to spray satin lacquer over the entire thing. I am afraid the residue left by the WD-40 will screw up my Final shot of lacquer…..

Can anyone thing of a mild de-greaser that I can use on the top half to take off that WD-40? Which wont hurt the Finish thats on there now and will let the final coat stick well…

Hopefully one I can find locally, Walmart/Lowes

Next time, try Acetone, DNA or mineral spirits as a solvent to remove the residue. They will evaporate and not leave a residue. In fact, I might try those first to remove the WD40 rather than introduce water to the equation.

WD40 was not a good choice to remove the tape residue in the first place. Paint thinner or naphtha would have removed it just as well and not left you with anything needing further attention—like degreasing.

I missed the lacquer. I guess I should pay more attention. I just saw the paint and wondered why anyone would use WD-40 on wood in the first place.
