I was tearing an old work bench out of a garage. This was inset into the top of the bench, flush with the top of the bench. It extended down through the bench about 3 inches. The part that extended down was round and had about an inch diameter. I suspect the bench was build in the 60’s. Any ideas?

Can it be raised and lowered by that screw? I would think it takes the place of a bench dog in conjunction with a vise to hold a work piece. I’ve seen dogs with that saw tooth pattern used before.

Hmm. It’s pretty rusted up but that’s possible. I’ll have to get some more pics and see if it pulls up.

Yeah those are planing stops. Much easier to install than the old blacksmith made ones.

I can’t tell from your photo but is that one of the Millers Falls ones? If so, are you going to sell it?
