I am working on a sad forgotten k7 keen kutter plane. Its been dropped and repaired several years (decades?) ago. Im sure I should probably leave it for dead or part it out but I’ve become attached to it for some reason. It currently has a Stanley iron in it and I’m looking for a useable correct iron for it. Anyone have a good idea where to find one? Not a lot on ebay.

if it’s a K7, I assume you only want the KK iron for originality sake? The Stanley iron in it would be the right size/thickness, given the K series was the early bedrock castings.

If you wanted a new replacement, anything that fits a Stanley should fit it. I’ll take a look at what I’ve got, but don’t think I have any for a K series

The Stanley thats in it is just slightly undersized for the chip breaker. It works just fine but that little bit of undersized bugs me.

How undersized? Is it the width? Almost makes me curious if it has an older 5-1/2 iron in it (2-1/4” instead of 2-3/8”).

I don’t have any K series irons in the parts bin, so I’m of no help

The iron is 2 1/4 wide, chipbreaker is 2 3/8. Its not a lot but just enough to bug me cause I’m weird like that.

Lol, maybe someday I’ll find something to put it in. Thanks for looking anyway!

For anyone else who might have something im fine with a Stanley iron if its the right size. Doesn’t have to be a kk iron.
