Has anyone tried this new net sandpaper? Particularly on a Festool sander? I REALLY like the new cubitron II grit, but I'm just a little hesitant about how like 75% of the disk is NOT abrasive!
If nobody says anything negative about it, I'm going to try some.
I haven't tried them but I did read a few 1 star reviews on Amazon. 1 complained there wasn't enough sanding surface and 1 stated that the loop on the back wouldn't stay in his Mikita 5" orbital sander.
I under stand the abrasive on the disc are made from ceramic and should last longer than aluminum oxide.
Maybe you could ask for a sample. It wouldn't hurt to ask 3M or someone for one. All they can say is Yes or No.
Is Xtract the official name for Cubitron mesh paper? If so, there's a discussion in the Lumberjocks review section about this paper in case the OP didn't see that.
Thanks, JAAune! I was not aware. Thanks also James and Fred. I'm going to order some. it's really not that expensive… about $22 for 50 disks. Lot cheaper than the Fe$tool stuff.
Awesome discs. Watched katz moses do the comparison with the robot and it sold me. These things destroyed the competition. They removed more grams of material on the 4th 5 minute pass then some of the discs did in their entirety. I wish they came in sheets but the cubitron came in a close 2nd so I use those for sheet goods.
I bought quite a few of these based on the testing that was done, but I'm having real problems with them. The dust collection is great, and they sand well, but they just don't stay attached to the sander. I mean, to the point of being completely unusable. They wander off center and as soon as you lift the sander of the work piece they go flying across the room. And this is with a fresh piece of sandpaper and after blowing the dust off the sanding pad before attaching it. At first I thought the hook and loop on my old sander was getting worn out but then I got a brand new Festool sander and have the same problems. There must be some solution to this or 3M could not be selling these, does anyone know how to solve this issue? Thank you.
Boy, sounds annoying. I did purchase a couple boxes based on the sentiments here and have been using them. I have had some troubles with the disks not staying centered, but not entirely flying off the sander. I've been a bit disappointed about this. Actually, quite disappointed. When the disks move or fold under the sander, it shortens the life of the disk and also doesn't sand smoothly like it it should. If they could fix the stability and "stick" problem, I'd live them. But as it were, I wont be buying any more. Dont know how to get them to stick better, sorry.
So…..Where do these fit in compared to the 3M Cubitron II? I just switched to them and love them. A little confused as this listing says Cubitron II.
Just looking at them I can see why they don't stick to regular hook and loop. Don't have that issue with the other Cubitron II that have "Hook It" in the title.
