I've got a friend that recently bought himself a Kreg router lift. He wants at least a 2.25 hp motor or more to go in it.

Your suggestions please on one.

Just an alert: I'm not certain that the Bosch router suggested by a1Jim will fit into an aftermarket router lift. It has a bump out from the motor housing that I believe conducts power from the switch on the base. Kreg does not list it as one of the models compatible with their lift. Otherwise, it seems like a very nice router.

yeah well this is a "horrible " way to tell jim his suggestion wont work ! no need to spit in his face !

Your opinion .

Some may be thankful they didn't order a Bosch mrf23 for lift use because of a faulty LJ suggestion.
One that not only is erroneous, but wasn't vetted by the person giving said suggestion.

If hurt feelings are the cost of faulty suggestions, then so be it.

No bodily fluids were exchanged.

no you sure never worry about hurting someones feelings that for sure.i just think you could have been a little less insulting to jim.

Hello there Xedus

I responded to a question with a link, my response was what I thought was appropriate and helpful, as far as I knew the router I suggested fit the need of what Bruc101 asked for since I own a power lift pro I don't know what will fit in other router lifts nor do I own that bosch router so please excuse my Horrible suggestion.
I hope you have a wonderful day.

xedos,
I wasn't aware that the LJ monitors appointed you as the posting police.
I always find it amusing that people like yourself who are afraid to use their real names and have zero projects, zero blogs, zero reviews must just want to troll people or perhaps you must just b lonely and what to be noticed, Have you ever made anything made out of wood? You must just be here to just stir the waters? Most people who are here just to find answers to their questions, share ideas and just have fun, So why don't just chill and enjoy this great forum and the people in it. I don't intend to respond to your rude post again.

Personally, I think xedos needs to apologize to Jim, and everyone else that posted on this thread, for your uncalled for not wanted bs on LJ. That's not what LJ is about and it personally turns me off. One thing Jim has is "respect" here, something you seem not to have. As far as those routers you said I would be interested in, nope.

I got a call from my friend tonight about a router motor. He did order the one that Jim put a link to to use in his shop other than in his router table. He looked at the MLCS and Boca. He found one at Grizzly that seems to be the same motor as those two.

He called Griz and they told him it has a 12 month warranty and they have all the parts in stock to service it with, so that's who he went with and ordered it. He's going to call me when it gets here next week and I'm going for a visit with him to see how it performs.

I would like to thank all of you with sane minds that showed your respect to Jim for the blasting he got and replying to this thread.

I recently set up a kreg lift table at my work. we went with a Milwaukee. Mainly cause of name and a local dealer.

If they are doing serious routing, do the 3 hp. It makes a difference.

2hp router, I had a bosch last 15 years with heavy use. Its good that it was durable cause it was sh!t everywhere else.

I guess my point is Id get most powerful, then most versatile set up. Id somewhat ignore brand name.

I just picked up a Bora Portamate from WoodCraft 219 bux seemed like it was the best bang for the buck, and also a known, often reviewed motor. I will say on the motor it had to be 3 1/4 HP or bigger so I could swing BIG bits. I already have puny motor router tables, and wanted a big boy, with a lift.

Putting it into a kreg lift, and on a Kerg top/fence combo. Just starting assembly, while also doing about 12 other things, so probably later this week until I can say what I think about it. I bought this assortment based on the number of happy referrals I found looking at all of the different motors, lifts, and tops. these 3 seemed to have a lot more very happy reviews, while also having the least "I gave it a 1, because you couldn't give it a negative 1million" type reviews.

I will also say I have been looking at this for a long time, and have done a lot of looking, reading, about what is out there. It just became real now because I ran into a little extra ca$h.

im confused that bosh router has a lock on button could that not still be used in a lift or table?
- JrneedzMoreClamps
The trigger & on lock in the handles of the 23 "talk" to the motor via three buss bars on the housing. It is only functional with one of the 23 bases, that's it. Can't be easily used in a lift even if it fits. I'm sure you could Rube Goldberg something if your were really committed, but would it be safe ?

xedos,

I'm not trolling anyone. You gave a router suggestion that simply won't work. You gave it based on no firsthand knowledge of the router or the lift. Now , If you or anyone else finds the correction of factual errors as disrespectful, then I'm sorry - we'll just have to disagree.

You made a poor suggestion that won't work. Own it, instead of trying to deflect the fault because my delivery wasn't full of hugs and kisses. It's nice to have buddies come to your defense , but that still doesn't make the suggestion any more workable.

At least 1/4 of the respondents don't use their "real" name. Does that make them less of a woodworker ? If I had one "buddy" like some others here, would that make me a superstar woodworker? What about the 4 other respondents without buddies on this thread? Does that make their comments invalid ? Do I have to review a tool or widget, or service to be a good woodworker or LJer ? Do I have to sell plans ?

So everyone is clear , these are all rhetorical, I'm not trolling you.

Now who's disrespectful ?

n.b. - you have absolutely NO idea what my aspirations are.

As far as those routers you said I would be interested in, nope.
- bruc101
If you'd really read my comment , I said that it was unlikely you or your friend would be interested in any of the routers I posted. This just illustrates the hypocrisy around here. I offered some links of routers I like just like Jim did. One difference is I own and use all of them - unlike his suggestion. Another is Jim's got a pass for suggestions that won't because he's a blogger and has buddies. Seriously ?
