Hi everyone,

I’m new to LumberJocks but involved in a couple of Auustralian woodworking forums for some years.

I’m making a Dan Gatto (plan) 1930’s Roadster.
The details in Dan’s plans are amazing and very accurate. Some of the American terminology took a little to get my head around but that is the challenge and fun of it.

But now I have hit a major hurdle or roadblock, no not the virus, this one may well prove to be my mistake. Time will tell won’t it.
I’ll add some photos but here is the nub of the issue.
The steering column does not reach the steering rod located on the front end. I have checked every measurement and none are incorrect which is my issue?
The photos show my progress and the last three show how the steering column is short (but not going by the plans) and does not get anywhere near the steering rod on the front end.
I know I can remake the steering wheel with a longer column but given it is made to the plan specs and does not fit surprises me. Where have I screwed up?? Very frustrating.
Dan Gatto is not available on line for FAQ but only snail mail which will take till 2022 to get there let alone an answer…...
Anyone out there familiar with this plan and can offer some help PLEASE let me know.

I’ve spent ages here trying to load some photos but despite various attempts I’ve had no joy??

Cheers Kerry

Thanks Kerry

Kerry, when you want to put pictures with you story just click on the img button. This gives you the option to choose a picture, then you must choose 2. to insert this image. then you can click on the preview button to review what you have done to see if you were successful.

-- Don't tell me it can't be done.

And if its a sideways picture it wasn’t successful!

The ”img” drill holds in all comments/posts.

I’m running a test here to see if people can now see my (1) photo.
A little confusing as I posted 6 pics a day or so ago yet Pjonesy wasn’t able to see them and I don’t know why? Was it because my post was “unapproved” of have I missed something?

Appreciate the help

I think I have this one, but never started building. Soon I will dig in my plans to find out.

I believe both T&J and Gatto are somewhat slack in answering plan queries, if they even bother.

In future, you should get some of Dutchy’s plans… he will always answer you, though you may need to plant a few tulips in your garden.

Dutchy I’ve checked out some of your work and I hope I can rise to that level. I note you are in Northern Netherlands. Where exactly? As a young fella I spent a Christmas in Den Helder and on my 22nd birthday saw snow there for the first time. I have such fond memories of Holland.
Sorry if this is off topic but I’m not permitted to email yet as I still on my L plates as a new member.

I wouldn’t worry too much AL... Aussies are renowned for hijacking threads here at LJ and basterdise the topic.

The only off topic subject is turning vino into vinegar.
