Hey everyone.. Have a chance to pick up some wood that a couple brought over from the Philippines over 10 years ago.. So it’s from that area somewhere. Would like to reimburse them fairly for it (or not pay way too much!)

Unfortunately at the moment these are the only pictures I could get out of some family nearby. Any ideas what it might be?

It kinda looks like teak. Is it oily does it have a nutty smell ?
It looks great If it came out if a rain forest jungle feel free to call it whatever you want.
How about jungle Alder teak.

Teak would be my guess too.

You might want to look at Benji Reyes’s posts on LJ. He’s in the Philipines and uses native woods exclusively. I don’t think teak is one of them.

yakal, molave, balayong, saplungan, guijo, kamagong, narra, dao, dungon and ipil are names that I often see in his work.

-- I intended to be a woodworker, but turned into a tool and lumber collector.
