Topic tags/keywords: air cleaner wen jet air cleaner

Apologies for not posting this in the Reviews section, but I couldn’t get a photo to upload…but here’s my feedback on the air cleaner:

I opted to save a few bucks and try the WEN air cleaner of my small-ish basement shop. I have low ceiling/clearance, so I have it placed under and to the right of my table saw – great to collect its dust. I ordered it through Home Depot, and had it shipped to my house for free ~ $240. It weight nearly 50 pounds.

And- it does collect the TS dust very well; I have a DC connected to the dust port of my saw, but a fair amount of dust comes off the blade area and into the air. This unit captures it well. It has three speeds – 556 CFM, 702 and 1044, and two stage filtration. The sound isn’t disturbing when it’s on 556 or 702 – and those are the speeds that I’ve used the most.

My one issue with it – is that it turns itself on without me doing anything. I called WEN and they sent a replacement mother board . During that call, I asked them if they would send some filters with the motherboard (as good will = free) and they did. I thought that was cool.

So I installed the new motherboard, and for a while it SEEMED to help…but it’s back to turning itself on when the shop is empty and dark and once in a while when I’m working down there.

I took all the remotes from the house down to the basement to see which (if any) was activating the air cleaner. None – not garage door openers, stereo, TV remotes, not light fixtures with wireless remotes, and not ceiling fans.

I called WEN again and the service guy said that it’s a common problem…and that they don’t have a fix for it. He went on to say that he wishes the engineers had to field the complaints – because if they did, they’d do something about it.

So I gave it 4 stars. The unit does what it’s supposed to – cleans the air and the remote works…but if I’m not going to be in the shop for a while, I just unplug it. A small bother. If I had it to do again, I’d consider the comparable JET…but when I bought this one, the Jet was about $75 more.

I have the WEN now for 3 or more years with no problems. That could be a big lawsuit in the making by them ignoring the problem. I hope you leave yours unplugged when not in use.

Mine is always plugged in and has never started on its own. I have a tv remote and my mini split remote in the shop and neither affects it.

I’ve had the Wen for about 3 years now and it’s never turned on by itself. It does a good job and I like it.

I used the timer for the first time and it did exactly what it was supposed to. Does a nice job of cleaning the air, even if I do have to unplug it when I’m away from the shop…

I have a garage shop. I keep all of my tools unplugged when my space is in garage mode.
It’s a habit I got into years ago after a power failure in the neighborhood while I was working.
When the power came back on that night, so did my router. No damage but scared the crap out of me!
Most of my tools now have magnetic switches but I sleep better this way. :)
