For what it’s worth, this has happened a few times to me over the years. Nothing I did could resolve it . Suddenly it would start working in 2-4 weeks. I did change my e-mail address once to fix it.

Thanks, LEE Roy yes I did check it.

Don’t think I’ve been hacked Jim.

Thanks, Pottzy

Interesting Dave seems I was having this problem before.

The system has a mind of its own. It sends them when it feels like it.

My email notifications of direct personal messages usually works, but notifications of new thread postings only worked occasionally. It was so bad, I turned it off and forgot about it.

Due to troubleshooting a recent problem, might know why email notifications are working for only some LumberJocks? But I am afraid you need some tech knowledge to follow along. :(
Will go slow…..

Check the raw source text header for the LumberJock emails you do get, and look for sendgrid.net.

This was the notification sending address from a PM I received yesterday:
wrqvcwsk.outbound-mail.sendgrid.net ([149.72.201.97])

Checking the sendgrid source email IP address against over 120 international BlackLists, I get this:
——————————————
Blacklist check
149.72.201.97
Blacklisted Count: 5

Blacklisted on:
dnsbl.cobion.com
dnsbl.sorbs.net
old.spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net
problems.dnsbl.sorbs.net
spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net
—————————————————

Oops, Looks like Lumberjocks email IP is a considered a SPAMMER by a couple of sites that track spam.

Users can not fix the blacklist or blocked email problem. Best solution is to try changing your email address.

I found an old hotmail (outlook.com) address laying around that was happy to pass the spam tagged notifications, even if they end up in junk mail box. Once I tagged a couple messages as ‘not spam’, everything reaches my inbox.

FWIW – Full email blocking story if you want to know more:

Have been in pissing match for several weeks with my internet provider – Cox [sucks], regarding problems with email blocking.

The folks over at OWWM.org use SendGrid.net. The admin at OWWM was kind enough to share that my notifications were being bounced/rejected by Cox [sucks]. They have similar bounce problems with a couple folks. Guessing Cricket will find the same problem when she looks into A1Jim’s issue?

Learned that Sendgrid.net shared IP addresses can ALWAYS be found on WWW Blacklists. Anyone can rent the email forwarding service from Sendgrid. Only the email sender can ask the blacklist site to remove an IP. But if the shared IP keeps sending messages tagged as spam, the IP gets put back on the blacklist in less than 1 week.

These public blacklist are used by companies like Cloudfilter.net (one of the largest online spam filter service providers) which happens to be used by Cox [sucks]. (You might see Cloudfilter addresses in your raw email header too.) Cloudfilter.net services are not under my providers direct control, so they can not flip a switch and allow all sendgrid.net traffic. The only solution available to my provider, is to add exceptions to cloudfilter.net filters based on other data in raw header (like bounce to OWWM.ORG).

My email service complaint has been forwarded to level 3 tech support security group. it is fun (sic). L3 tech support is not allowed to talk to customers. So have random level 2 tech support folks, calling me and relaying messages back/forth as questions come up. Last message I had, L3 tech support was still trying to figure out if OWWM.org was spammer or not, and wanted to double check my email address as they have no record of it on their system. ARG!
I switched my OWWM email address a couple days ago, and decided I don’t care if provider fixes the issue or not.

Hope this helps.

PS – Hard to rant about free online service, but unavoidable:
All Vertiscope needs is a dedicated email server and IP, plus staff/web code to prevent users from sending spam from their sites. Wished they would spend some of advertising revenue from half naked girls in the side bar, and fix this and other common user problems on this site.
While I appreciate everything Cricket does as the site manager, we need more.
Have been talking about changes to forum software for years now.
Where is it?
/end rant – thanks for reading.

I’ve had about four different emails. The problem of lack of notificiations remains consistent – idiots who think they are something more are not.

It’s just as with the Gates of Hell crowd. Not that long back, they set up a nice place to keep all your personal files (e.g., data and photo). Problem was, when things went awry, as they often did with Windows products, including up dates, everything was set to the original configuration.

Of course, in their wisdom, that means those folders are, in their natural state, empty.

Years in, the Gates of Hell still have issues:

- The update your computer without your permission, wiping valuable files.

- The program slows your state of the art computer to a fraction of the speed it could be. One of the reasons people call the OS bloatware.

Now toss in other idiots not far removed from fact checkers, like the anti-spam cites, and. . . .

Have your say...
