Topic tags/keywords: glue sizing joints laminate gaps

Hi, folks. I’m building a wood laminate bow that also has v-splices. I recently sized the wooden components with hide and sinew glue. Before I sized the pieces, they all fit together perfectly, with no light shining through the joints when I held them to a light source. After sizing however, I could see light shining through. Now upon gluing, the gaps are gone.

I guess what happened is that the glue size layer on the wood wasn’t perfectly flat, and after the application of hot thick glue and clamping, it got squished back to perfection? Is this normal?

Thanks for reading and hope you will share similar experiences.
