What an absolute HORROR SHOW! I was a First Responder at a major Oil Tool production facility for 15 years and the pucker factor for this video is off the charts. Don't let Stumpy Nubs watch this one.
Great looking stairs, BUT…........
Wow, fantastic results! Took me a while to get the reference to sandals and hot asphalt, good description. I certainly cringed at the thought of getting burnt by hot asphalt and I also cringed when I saw him free handing at the band saw. I can certainly see something going wrong there.
yeah sam would just free hand pieces carving out parts for rockers or whatever,he would always warn people dont do what im doing it's dangerous.when i did his rocker i kinda did the same thing,it would be harder not too.
Scary for sure. But the first thing I thought of reading the title was years ago now, Paving hot asphalt on Casino Center Blvd, right off Fremont street in Las Vegas. And a woman walks out of the 4 Queens hotel and steps right off the sidewalk into the fresh asphalt with flip flop style shoes on.
Right behind the paver, before the first roller has touched it. So it is still 4" thick and soft, so you sink right into it.
She just froze there with here drink.
Screed hand stepped off the machine and grabbed her.
Hair stands up on my neck just remembering it.
All I saw was A crew of extremely professional, experienced craftsmen doing what they do.
Hey pottz, isn t that how Madof uses a bandsaw?
Always wondered how they did those curves…Very cool….

I saw many things. But the band saw impressed me. Everything else was pretty run of the mill stuff for me, except seeing hot asphalt used indoors and doing it in flip-flops.

Well simce they don't sell driveway scented air fresheners what else is a guy to do? I mean how else can you bring the fresh smell of asphalt into a closed space? Makes me wonder though if you spill water on the stairs does it smell like fresh rain on a road?
I've done exactly what he was doing more times than I can remember(making handrail components). Simple rules…mind your hands and don't get greedy.
The scariest part of the whole vid was the guy doing the drop cut dado with the shaper on the 45's of the landing plates. Just due to the grain direction it makes it super easy to get a kick back. Sketchy as *$&^. I think he even lost it on the first one.
