Available now at your local dealer, Powermatic is releasing special 100th anniversary editions of several of their tools. They feature custom black paint with gold metallic flake and a gold band with a metal 100 year badge.

Here’s a small sample of some of the anniversary editions. There are many others:

This was/is my trophy banner- prior to 2014- the gold standard was the machine to go to. and when I was given this wall hanging I proudly displayed it… As for the change in color- purely marketing for I still own some steel blue Jet’s which switched to white…

WoodWhisperer still uses the “gold standard”

I thought I remember a previous 100th anniversary edition, but it could not have been more than 10 years ago. At the Baltimore wood working show and I think they were a couple percent off. But as most decent tools are on backorder, no reason to discount.

Not that it matters as I’m not in the market. Really do like that color combo. I think Grizzly did a special color at one point too.

I get advance notice. I forgot to mention that there will be two waves. One in March and another in August. Different tools each time.

Rich in your advanced notice does it say what kind of discount it would be? I know last year they first started out with a 10% discount, then in march they changed it to 15%. I wonder if they plan on doing that again this year? Last year I got a 2000B when they were on sale for 15%. I try to keep a eye on there sales and it doesn’t seem that 15% happens very often. I need me one of those 209’s! I have a order in for one of them but there not suppose to be in the USA until April.

Some people go on about Grizzly being so much cheaper, and say its the same thing with different paint? But that’s not totally true, there are little differences and huge differences between them. For instance The Grizzly G1033Z 1 year warranty is $2195 + $249 Shipping + $89 cheep Mobile base, Missouri Sales tax 8.1% $205 =$2738 to my door Powermatic with semi ok built in base and 5 year warranty $2699 from SouthernTool free shipping and no tax to my door. In my mind its not hard to figure out the better deal for me, not for everyone, but for me the Powermatic when on sale is a great deal! Yes, Grizzly has their sale on them and when Powermatic is not on sale comparable machines people can save money.

But I can also say I had a Jet Lathe (owned by the same group as Powermatic) years back and the motor went out. There was no motors in the USA at the time. Then I was using my lathe every day, and they actually paid for a non Jett Motor for my lathe to keep me going. They went out of there way to keep me happy. The way I see it is when I buy a Jet or Powermatic I have 5 Years of them taking care of me vs 1 year of Grizzly. Is that worth paying more? It is to me! Then when Powermatic is on sale for less that the total cost to my door than a Grizzly, I don’t think I could possibly go wrong! I sure like Powermatic and Plan on having more of them!!!

Powermatic sold the ‘Onyx edition’ black/gold machines for 90th anniversary in 2011.
https://www.popularwoodworking.com/projects/the-powermatic-limited-edition-onyx-series/
Most came with special accessory package? Nothing is ever deleted from internet. :)

PS – One topic of rumors and innuendo:

If you want a new tool on sale; buy it ASAP. According to a conversation with local Woodcraft franchise owner/manager last week, most of US OEM machinery mfg have given advance notice that future large power tool sales Q2+ will be non-existent due increased procurement costs. Also expecting across the board price increases by end of year too. Truck shipping costs are also going up, making for a double price increase.

If you had not noticed, Grizzly already raised 2021 catalog prices by 3-10%, and increased truck freight surcharge. Harvey tools just increased truck shipping charges last month too.

This makes the comparison right now between Green Bear, Red/White Jester, and Gold King of bling; much closer than it has been in previous years. LOL

I’m gonna show this to my wife and say, “See, I NEED to order now. He’s the smartest person on the internet.”

Rumor is trucks are supposed to be in short supply cause of parts.
