Topic tags/keywords: spindle sander

Hello,

I am interested in the Rigid Oscillating Spindle Sander (with the belt sander attachment). This appeals to me because like the tilt table and especially the miter slot. I am having problems finding one of these tools. I looks like Rigid only markets this through Home Depot. This items is out of stock just about everywhere. Some of the reviews of this item indicate that a few have had to return and exchange the sander due to some quality control problems. So, I would like to find one in a store so I can return and exchange it if necessary.

Does anyone know whether there is a problem with availability of the sander? Is it an issue with production problems in China (or elsewhere)? Or, is Rigid going to stop selling this product? It just seems kind of odd that so many store are out of stock.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sanders, in general, are in short supply. Grizzly is out of just about everything under a grand. Lots of other spot shortages and lumber prices up 3x-4x and climbing over a year.

Prices are going to continue to climb based on political costs as well.

I know where i live I can’t even find them on their web site, if I search by brand and model it “appears” to find it, but if I click it goes to a bunch of spindle sanders that you have to order, nothing in stores. Seems like its discontinued since I cannot even get to the page for the item and see “out of stock” like a notmal stock item.

Some else posted they could not find this sander recently.

Think something must be wacky with online inventory data on the Ridgid sander?
Might be because this item is only sold in stores?

Was in two different local stores recently and after the previous comment of none available, while I was in tool isle checked and they both had some for sale.
Online listing shows either ‘not available’, or ‘limited stock – call store’ at the ~12 stores in Phoenix metro area. Which I now know is incorrect.

Suggest you visit store, and check physical inventory.

If find none, find the tool department manager (and not just any random store clerk like my Son), or stop at customer counter and have them check internal inventory of nearby stores. The manager and CS desk have access to corporate warehouse, all zone store inventory, and incoming shipment dates

Best Luck.

Yes, Ridgid is basically the HD house brand.
Yes, a lot of tools are on back order. Everyone home with the COVID shutdown.
Yes, it is a light weight cheap tool so there will be some occasional quality problems.
Yes, most people love them.

Personally, I use a WEN spindle sander and a HF disk. Never needed the tilt table.

FWIW I purchased the Triton oscillating spindle sander (just spindle) and it is wonderful. The spindle is 90deg to the table and the TIR of the spindle is .002. Works very well.

I bought one a few weeks ago. HD online said no inventory anywhere. I went to my local store and they had 2. Their internal inventory showed stock at all the other local HD stores as well. So go to the store in person and check. Good Luck

I use mine all the time. With the belt sander and tilting table / plus miter gauge… It simply does things other sanders can’t.

It’s not an all-metal industrial tool, but for what it is, it’s pretty great. Find one if you can. You’ll like it. Even a used one might be an option.

I’ve bought discontinued tools off eBay with good success.

I’m a fan…got one a couple of years ago. I don’t use it a ton, but it’s a nice unit. Good dust collection, etc.

Don’t trust their online inventory. I went to 4 HD’s to find an item today. Store #1 said “low stock”, in reality that meant “0”. Store #2 said “7” in stock, they had “0”. Store #3 had “10” in stock, they had “0”. And finally # 4 supposedly had “3” in stock, you guessed it, they had “0”. 2 hours wasted.

Thanks for all your responses. I wish I could just find a source that has the sander in stock (maybe other than Home Depot), buy it, and have it shipped. I just checked 21 stores withing 75 miles of Columbus, OH and every one had “This store has limited quantity in stock. Please call to confirm availability.” Guess I’ll make some calls tomorrow.

There is one on Amazon. Price: $487. Delivery: March 19. Got to be kidding! I’m beginning to suspect there are a bunch of these sitting in an HD warehouse somewhere.

thanks again.

Mine is supposed to be delivered Monday or Tuesday? Never did check local store if they actually did have 2 in stock?

Be careful ordering one from Amazon. I recall seeing somewhere that Ridgid won’t honeor the warranty if it wasn’t bought at HD.
