Topic tags/keywords: shopfox sanders

I am looking at a used Shopfox W1854 Drum Sander. It looks good and was told that it had very few hours on it. I have tried to research it online to check out some reviews but haven’t been able to find a lot of reviews.

I would like to hear people’s opinions on this sander, so you own it, know anything about it.

Thanks everyone, I have decide to pass on this sander as I could not find a lot of reviews and I it must not be very popular as no one on several forums as spoke up with their opinion. So again thanks.

I don’t comment much on various machines/tools etc, but I bought the exact same sander. Spent several days trying to get the belt track straight, finally was satisfied and it held up for awhile. Well after very limited use, the bed height adjustment would not hold, it wanted to back track and loosen during the sanding operation and mind you I was sanding short boards (3 Foot) I was at a loss here so I called Grizzly in Springfield, Mo. to see if there was some kind of adjustment or repair that would eliminate this. According to the tech I talked to, there wasn’t much available to adjust as the gears were all factory machined and probably not meshing right (tight fit)) and allowing backlash thus allowing the handle to move allowing the bed to loosen and move down away from the sanding shaft during operation. Just my experience and they may be good 1854 sanders out there people are happy with. I promptly went and bought a Woodmaster 2675. No more sanding problems!

So I just wanted to update this thread, I passed on this Shopfox drum sander….. I just was not hearing great things about it.

Since I decided to pass I continued to look and was able to find a Supermax 19-38 that have just a few hours on it and was less then 18 months old. Now this sander was considerable more then the shopfox but it was a nicer, larger and newer machine.

Have your say...
