Hi all. New user to the LJ blog forum, have been reading posts for years. I’m an aspiring professional woodworker and I’m looking to befriend a local pro or amateur to learn from and collaborate with. I live between Dayton and Cincinnati but would consider driving further out. Thanks for your recommendations and assistance. -- Because you are alive, everything is possible. |

Cincinnati is about 150 feet from here. I’m in the county. -- You can lead a horse to water, but you can't tie his shoes. Blaze Foley |

If closer to Dayton, because they meet on the North side of town. https://westernohiowoodworkers.com/ Membership is 30 bux a year, in a normal year when people are allowed to be in the same area at the same time. With membership you get a 25% discount on hardwood at Frank Miller Lumber (sweet wood stash). Most people break even after the first trip there. Discounts on other Dayton area woodworking businesses, and support companies too. They only have 4 or 5 large meets a year, but informal mini meets all the time. When I first was here I went down to Cinci’s group. They are 99.995% about wood turning, which is fine, but if you don’t own a lathe….... Ehhhh. The good thing with them is they are heavily supported by the Rockler store down there. The Columbus group kicks buttocks, but the drive….... Oy vey….. Dayton to Cols is like driving through Kansas, miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles….. -- Think safe, be safe |

Thanks for the advice all. I may check out WOW here after the “normal life” returns. I will continue to stay in touch with my local Rockler and WC events also. Maybe I’ll run into some of you some day! Stay safe -- Because you are alive, everything is possible. |

Looking forward to a time when we don’t have to wear a mask everywhere, and not be in a group no larger than one, but now that the precedent has been set, and there are, and will be new strains of Flu, Covid, and whatever I fear that we may never get back to what we grew up to be called normal. That is a sad thing. -- Think safe, be safe |

There is another advantage to joining WOW (at least there used to be). You get a nice discount on lumber from Frank Miller in Union City IN. They (Frank Miller) have some very nice wood. -- Our village hasn't lost it's idiot, he was elected to congress. |
