Topic tags/keywords: planer powermatic grizzly 15hh g1021 byrd helical cutterhead cutter head

I just learned the Powermatic 15HH planer’s cutterhead is no longer a Byrd cutterhead as per PM tech support. It seems sometime in 2017 PM replaced the Byrd cutterhead with another. Tech support said they did not know where the new cutterhead was manufactured, but since the 15HH machine is made in Taiwan, that is probably where they are getting this new cutterhead.
Has anyone had an opportunity to compare the newer cutterhead to a pre2017 version with the Byrd cutterhead?

I also noticed that the parts breakdown of the Grizzly G1021 planer and the Powermatic 15HH planer are nearly identical. Both made in Taiwan. Is the PM just a “gold” colored G1021? Anyone had an opportunity to compare them side by side?
