Topic tags/keywords: planer dewalt question tip

Help! Replaced the blades in my dewalt planer, turned on for 5ish second, then stopped and won’t restart. No wood was even in the planer yet. I took apart again and retraced all the steps and there is a chance the locking switch was not fully pressed down by the guard and the roller locked into place or something. It seems like there is no power going to the machine or it completely died. Not sure where to go from here!

Does the cutterhead turn at all by hand? No? Something wasn’t installed correctly and is jamming. Remove knives and try hand turn again.

Press RESET on motor.

Does motor hum? (Place hand on housing, flip switch on briefly to feel for any vibration.) No? Check power feed.

R&R motor brushes.

Like Madmarr2 said, check for free movement and breaker trip/reset. After that there are one or more safety interlocks that any of which could be an issue. They can get brittle and fall apart after getting some stress. You may have to take a volt meter to them one by one.

It probably has a safety interlock to prevent it from being turned on when the tool tray is off to allow access to the blades. Be sure it is reattached properly.
