Found this planer on an auction I plan to attend tomorrow, just curious what everyone thinks it is worth. Jet JWP-15CS 15” Planer 3HP

Also I currently have the dewalt 13” 2 speed planer but I just want more power. I know the jet is more motor but its still a straight knife machine. Am I going to see that big of an improvement or should I hold out and buy a helical head machine instead?

I have the Jet 20” planer, I really like it.
Huge, huge upgrade from a benchtop planer.
If the price is right, I would buy the one you pictured.
The chances of finding a helical head on an auction or for a reduced price is pretty low.
Plus, nothing wrong with straight knives. As hobbyists, we don’t have to change blades very often.

I think you’ll find this is a big improvement over your desktop unit. One nice thing IMO is with the cutterhead assembly moving vs. the table, once you have in-feed and out-feed set up, they won’t change if you alter your cutterhead adjustments. That’s the way it is on my Delta and it’s proven to be advantageous.

Have your say...
