A recent micro burst blew over a four foot diameter box elder tree on my property. When I cut it up I found an incredible red ring in the base. I’ve cut a couple of five inch slabs with the intention of making Adirondack tables from them. I’m worried the red will disappear if exposed to sunlight. Is there any kind of clear finish that will prevent this?

Keep it in dark, other than that; Good Luck?

IME – Can delay the color change thru use of UV protective top coat, but eventually the red turns into a pink/salmon color as it gets exposed to UV light. With strong UV exposure it changes into tan color.

Cheers!
