After my question on drum sanders I am now digging in and looking at better dust collection in my shop first. I am looking at the Jet 1.5 HP 1100 CFM with vortex cone and 2-micron canister kit. It is on a rolling stand. On sale right now. My shop isn’t very large, and currently just have a big shop vacuum with a cyclone. Any thoughts from anyone with the Jet – do you like it?? |

I’ve got the pre-vortex 1100 with cartridge filter. What tools are you looking to collect from? For bandsaw, you’ll probably do better with a shop vac and a homemade undertable fitting (check on youtube for rob cosman’s bandsaw dust collection). Tablesaw dust collection gets better if there is a shroud around the blade and collection from the blade guard itself. My Jet JPS-10 saw just has a 4” dust port into the cabinet, which hasn’t been particularly effective at controlling dust at the saw. Matt |

I was set on buying that very DC until a couple weeks ago. And I think it is a good DC, But I discovered the Powermatic version, And decided to go with it. I had gone to my local woodworking store to see if they had the Jet. and they did. I was a little surprised when I got to put my hands on it. It just felt flimsy to touch it. And right next to it was the Powermatic. They got the Jet for $600+ tax too. Same free ship to the store. I also saw that they free ship to your home too. That’s part of the sale. Not normal for Home Depot to ship to home for free. -- John |

Have a PM 1000, bandsaw, router table, planer, and miter saw among other small tools. Looking down the road to add a drum sander (maybe).

Thank you for all the helpful info. Buying online is frustrating as I would like to see the product. Really appreciate your perceptions. Funny how easily the price point shifts up with an “extra” $300+ I didn’t know I could get ship to store with PM (did that with my Rikon bandsaw). Like that option as delivery is never easy where I live.

For anyone with a pre vortex cone dc, it is available as a replacement part. I added the cone to an off brand dc I have. I also scrapped the bags and added a jet 2 micron filter. A new machine for half the cost. |

I put a Dust Deputy Vortex over a 33 gallon barrel and hooked my Ridgid shop vac ( that came from Home Depot free to my door) to it and it works fine. I have about $250 in it with the hoses and blast gates. I’m cheap and like to make my tools from whatever is available. A big commercially made unit will most likely have more CFM to it. Look at things like how good is the filter for discharging the air and how easy it is to empty the chips/dust..and the CFM. My Shop Vac never has dust in it…...... except one time I let the barrel get full and it went half way up the vortex before I realized what has happened!! cheers, Jim -- Jim Jakosh.....Practical Wood Products...........Learn something new every day!! Well, I ordered the Jet since I could do ship to store with a local Home Depot. At this point I’m wishing I had gone another way as there is damage to the housing. When I picked it up there was minor “damage” to the box but nothing that looked to be an issue. I was wrong. I still moved forward with unpacking (must have been too excited with my new toy) and didn’t see the housing damage until I was to the step in assembling. Took it out of the bag and wow – bent and broken. Yesterday spent time on the phone with HD. Sent pictures to JPW Industries who apparent owns Jet (thankfully I take a lot with any shop projects). They are reviewing and I am hopeful the housing can be sent. Guess I may be required to return it all based on comment from HD..and now the units are on backorder. :( Will continue to see if I can just get the replacement part. So much for getting set up over my semester break. Wish I had unpacked when I picked it up. |

No guessing about it, when you buy from HD you can return it easily. I wouldn’t wait, order another one and take that one back. -- Our village hasn't lost it's idiot, he was elected to congress. |

Just received this – guess I’m out of luck on just getting the housing. Yes Ma’am, we would need the unit back. Please contact Home depot directly. They will then contact us, and place a replacement order. Thank you for your inquiry. |

I ordered a ceiling fan thru HD, direct ship to the house. After installing it, I turned it on and it wouldn’t turn. I promptly put it back in the box as much as I could, drove back to HD and returned it. No problem. I ordered a 2 HP Jet cyclone from Rockler 3 or 4 weeks ago. I got a note from them saying it was on back order and Jet did not have an expected ship date. I cancelled the order and called Oneida and ordered a Supercell from them. It will be 4-5 weeks before it should arrive. The sales rep said the main reason their lead time was so long was that business has been crazy busy. When I talked to the Rockler rep, she said they have been crazy busy since Covid hit too. Both of them said there are also issues in their supply chains. I would order a new one to be shipped to the store so that if there is damage you don’t have to spend the time to unpack and then repack it and return it. -- Earl "I'm a pessamist - generally that increases the chance that things will turn out better than expected" |

Will be working to unassemble and box it up again. Will get a refund when it gets picked up. Will then need to reorder when it’s back in stock (cannot get on a waiting list for backorder). Have another item that is now on backorder (that was not revealed when i ordered). Disappointed as semester break was going to be my time to work in the shop on setup. |

Well that sucks, I got my Powermatic a week ago. But my wife won’t let me touch it till Christmas. lol -- John |

John – actually said to my husband that I should have gone with the PM like John!! Hope yours is in perfect condition. I think you should be allowed to set it up before Christmas, but if it’s your wife’s gift, it’s her rules. ;)
