With the grain or against the grain of the outer plywood layer?

I’ve always done it with the grain, with a balance sheet I’ve never had an issue, but I’m using 1/4” ply and the thought crossed my mind.

The key is balance, both sides having the same grain direction.
I’ll “try” to make each layer (including the veneer) alternate, but depending on the dimensions of the plywood I have on hand I’ll just go with whatever works. 1/4” plywood (Lauan, thick core with thin outer plies) doesn’t seem to care unless you accidentally mess up, then it’s perfect for a curved trunk lid 8^)
