Nice. I got a reverse surprise yesterday. Cherry is $4.40 bf at my local lumberyard. Grabbed a piece out of the "regular" cherry, took to counter and was charged $7.70bf since its quartersawn.
Nice figure but very pale. Would consider buying more cherry myself if I could find some nice red boards.
Out here I see cherry with too many pitch pockets without good color.
Nice boards, They need to be showcased in a beautiful new piece.
Aj - where's out here?
Years ago i got some cherry that was from Kentucky I was told. It was beautifully dark red even freshly cut. Since them everything i had seen from MI and now MA has been very blond in comparison.
I think it's the figure that counts most here.
Well worth the price despite lack of colour.
The boards can be coloured easily enough with aniline dyes to achieve any desired, including a nice red colour.

I have an outlet close by for boards rejected by a cabinet shop for the RV industry where the highly figured boards cannot be used. You have to sort to find good ones but it is worth it because it's cheap.
As SMP said some sun. and that stuff will be real red, real quick. That curl is a winner, either somebody messed up or they just sell it as they get it. Really depends on the seller, to some curl is still a "defect" if you can believe that, it was an actual grading thing, now it isn't mentioned in the grading standards. Now though there are people standing in line for curl anything, and sellers who understand this generally charge more for it, and offer it as Curly Cherry, Curly Maple, Curly whatever. Here are current grading standards. Page 8 they go over defects, OK's which we sometimes drool over, but curl is no longer mentioned. They are just grading on color, clarity (meaning no knots) lastly length, and width. FAS is Firsts and Seconds, then comes 1C, and then you really start getting to the dodgy stuff where your best deals lurk, but you need to often butcher it up to get usable wood
This would probably be graded 1C, not FAS due to the color being a bit pale, and curl doesn't count in actual grading. But easily worth a bit less than 4 bux a BD/FT. I'd call it a winner winner price. Also raises that place up as a seller. Today it's rare not to be charged a premium for curl, or other defects we like so much.
