Anybody had a chance to try out the new Jet Cyclonic Bullet Separator. Watched a video from Jet today and looks like an interesting concept. I think it’s brand new – haven’t been able to find any reviews yet.

This is the first I’ve heard of it, but it looks interesting. There are two different things that contribute to separation effectiveness: completeness of particle removal and flow resistance. At first glance, this looks good in providing less flow resistance because the flow need not reverse: all the flow direction change that causes resistance is involved in spinning to force particles to the outside so clean air can be removed from the middle. The smaller the circles the more acceleration is needed and the greater the flow resistance caused, but while this is quite small diameter, the flow path seems designed to keep the curve short. It is not clear to me how disruptive it is to take particles off from the side, which might cause turbulence that would not facilitate particle removal.

My guess is this is designed to cost less flow resistance than most separators, but to collect mostly larger particles. It would be interesting to see some data.
