I just purchased a Walker Turner table saw. I think it’s an 8” model 995 from the 1950s, and I have some questions if anyone here might be able to help. Photos attached.

Is there a user manual available with how to operate, perform maintenance, etc.?

What would I use to lubricate the gears inside, and the fence/frame?

What size saw blades work with this saw? Only 8”? Would 8 1/4” or 9” be fine as long as there’s enough clearance when I move the blade all the way up and down? Maybe just go with 7 1/4”?

What kind of belt does it take, and how is it removed and replaced? It looks like the current belt is a 2420 automotive v belt.

Can any maintenance be done to the motor, such as brushes, bearings, etc.?

How do I align the front fence plate with the table? I had to remove the fence assembly for transport. There are three bolt holes with washers and nuts – can I install some kind of spacers between the front of the table and the fence plate to make sure it’s square?

Are there any replacement inserts available? It looks like there is currently plexiglass taped on.

Is there a way to mount a riving knife or splitter? Or used original blade guard and splitter available?

That would be a fun restore. WT used a splitter/blade guard on some. Shouldn’t be too difficult to come up with something. I have an old ShopMate TS that looks similar.

you might find a manual here:

Thanks for the link. I’ll have to look more closely at how I could mount a splitter, considering the non-standard blade cut-out.

I think I’m just going to replace the belt with a matching 2420 for now. Guessing the rusty screw to the left of the belt pulley is to loosen a pivot to remove tension?

I’ll probably put a 7 1/4” blade on it just to run it for a while and make sure there aren’t any problems.

As far as cleaning and lubrication of all the cast iron, any thoughts there?

Have your say...
