I’m thinking of getting this saw, but I have one concern. I want to use it for cutting dados, but I’m not sure based on the images provided by Amazon or the Taytools site. Both sites have the inconsistency.

This saw.

https://www.amazon.com/Lynx-Thomas-British-Stained-Crosscutting/dp/B0785H2BGC/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=tenon+saw&qid=1601515091&sr=8-14

If you look at the first thumb, it appears the handle would ride high enough to clear a dado, but if you look at the fourth thumb it looks like it wouldn’t work.

Anyone have this saw and can tell me which image is correct, or better still with blade on flat surface, how much space up to lowest point on handle?

Also, any other saw recommendation for dados in the same price range or lower?

Order it and return it if it’s not the right one. Amazon makes it easy. No repacking, just drop it off at one of the locations they offer when you process the return. There’s always been free options when I’ve done it.

of course you don’t know what you’ll get but the proportions shown in the first 3 pics are accurate to the description. It’s 14” long and obviously around 4” deep in those pictures.

It should work. I think they misposted a dovetail saw pic in 4. If not return and get the Crown or Spear and Jackson, think those are angled higher.

I have this saw(but i did get a veritas later which i prefer). I set the teeth flat on my bench and the handle is 3/4 inch above the bench. Is that what you mean?

That is what I meant. Thanks.

So room for cutting a dado, barely, but no room for using a guide board. I’d like to find something that has maybe twice that clearance, or even a bit more. Been also looking at some long back saws that apparently came out of mitre boxes on ebay. Those would probably be better for dados anyway, more teeth more dust clearing capacity…

Have your say...
