Does anyone have a small bit of boxwood to spare?

I just need a small piece of boxwood to repair an antique folding ruler. A pen blank would be 6x what I need. 3/4×3/16×2 inches would do it, but bigger gives me a better chance to get it right.
Thanks in advance!

That’s what I thought.

Nobody has any. I can’t find it anywhere except shipped from England with very high shipping or larger pieces for $100+ from 1 us dealer.

I have a Ward and Payne chisel with a boxwood handle that might become a donor.

I searched eBay. Found things made from boxwood, but not even a pen blank of the genuine European box.

Rarehardwoodsusa.com has 1 piece for about $50. They have the slowest website I’ve ever seen.

The w&p chisel has a damaged handle, so needs a graft or a new handle anyway.

Aj,

Thanks for looking. I appreciate it!

I considered buying a few holly pen blanks, but it’s not as strong as box and a lot whiter.

I’m starting to really like the idea of getting a little piece out of that damaged chisel handle. I intended to graft a chunk of mesquite on the end of the damaged handle, and I think I can get a big enough piece of box out of it while I’m at it.

It depends on how deep they drilled the hole for the tang.
When I got this chisel, somebody had drilled a hole in it, painted it green, beat it up with a steel hammer, and used it for something like breaking rocks. I cleaned it up like this, but intended to graft on a piece of mesquite to restore the length and shape of the handle.

Wow, drsurfrat!
What do you want for them?
It this European box or African, if you know?
The one on the left might be big enough if it’s at least 3/4 wide x 3/16 thick.

Thanks, wwbbj,
I’m looking at that first company. The blanks are reasonable, but they don’t show postage rates to USA. I’ll inquire.

Ok. 30 lb shipping to USA on a 5 lb order!

would you consider using a piece of contrasting colored wood
to give the tool some character to show it has been used ??
