Topic tags/keywords: lumber sawmill roughsawn boards oak pine cherry popular

I have slowly realized that I have too much lumber on hand and am struggling with storage. Don’t have any sort of written inventory, but probably have 20,000 or so feet of lumber around. Mostly pine and red oak but also have some popular, cottonwood, cherry, white oak, birch, and … who knows. Have stuff from 4/4 all the way up to mantels. All air dried, both circle sawn and band sawn material. Central Wisconsin, looking for something let me know. Need to get some of this stuff dealt with before winter. Send me a message with questions. Thanks

I don’t have 20,000 feet of lumber but I definitely have more than I’ll ever use. I’ve been paying $45 a month for 20 years to store some of my excess. Some of it I’ve had for 30 years and it’s buried deep enough that it’ll be naother 30 before I get to it, maybe sooner if I would quit buying.

Storage is an interesting business. I have often considered getting into but figure I would probably just fill it with my own junk, thus not too profitable. Also have been concerned about the hassles of meeting with people to set up rental , problems with people not paying, leaving unit full of old tires etc. But you sound like the ideal customer… paying on the same unit for 20 years, maybe I should reconsider.

My goodness! Although there is a small pile on the front porch and a bigger stack inside the carport, along with full racks in the small garage shop I use, it is nothing compared to these situations. Fortunately, every good woodworker is looking for a good deal on wood on CL, so…

TechTeacher – have you watched Storage Wars on TV? That’s the answer to the unpaying customers…
