I recently acquired a unisaw. The saw came with a 3-phase 3 hp motor. I’m still considering a vfd to go from single phase 220 – 3-phase 220.

I also have a Grizzly motor that is 2hp 220V. I know the unisaws use a different mounting bracket. I believe I found a compatible bracket that I can mount to my motor to make it work.

The unisaw arbor is 3/4”, where my Grizzly motor is 5/8”. I know I can get a sleeve to increase the diameter of my Grizzly motor. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

Does anyone know where I can find a pulley that would match the unisaw pulley but with a 5/8” bore?

Here’s the place I use. Be prepared to learn something you didn’t really want to. But consider it to be your tuition a small price to pay for the knowledge.

99.9% of the time, it is much more cost effective to just splurge the $200 or so for a VFD than try to swap over to a single phase motor. Plus, a three phase motor is more efficient and robust with basically just bearings to worry about (no start circuits, capacitors, etc…). Paired with the VFD, it will do things not possible any other way. And you can sell your existing starter to recover most if not all of the cost of the VFD.

Cheers,
Brad

I ended up ordering a vfd. DURApulse GS20

I was curious about your username. I’m assuming you use a version of Unix OS, BSD? I’m a Linux user myself.
